About Sue Park
I am a Grade 1 teacher at Chadwick International in South Korea and currently pursuing my Master of Education degree with a specialization in mathematics at the University of British Columbia. I am passionate about inquiry-based, child-centered learning, and I focus on integrating storytelling into mathematics instruction to spark creativity and deepen students’ conceptual understanding. Recently, I was selected as an early years teacher coach for mathematics at Chadwick International. Earlier this year, I had the privilege of offering a workshop at the EARCOS Conference 2024 on implementing math games and using real-life problem-solving to enhance student learning. My goal is to create engaging, inquiry-driven math experiences that connect students with the real world, fostering curiosity and critical thinking.
This capstone project would not have been possible without the incredible support and encouragement I received along the way. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. Cynthia Nicol for her invaluable guidance and mentorship throughout this journey. Her expertise has been instrumental in helping me explore how storytelling can transform math education and in shaping my understanding of innovative teaching practices.
I would also like to thank my amazing instructor team at UBC: Rodrigo, Stephanie, and Lisa, whose feedback and support were crucial in refining my work and bringing this project to life.
Finally, I am immensely grateful to my colleagues from UBC, who shared their insights, encouraged my efforts, and contributed ideas that enriched this project. Your collaboration and support made this journey all the more meaningful. Thank you for being part of this learning experience with me!
